Classic Gingerbread Men...

Wednesday, 23 December 2015

Here we have it, the last Christmassy baking post of the year, I've loved baking all these Christmas recipes and next year I will defo be doing it again.
If there'e one thing I bake every year its these Gingerbread men. They're so simple to make and they're pretty much a blank canvass so if you're making them with little kids they can decorate and you can bake them. I usually make these with my baby sisters and they love to decorate them.

  • 100g Butter
  • 2 Tsp Ground ginger
  • 350g Plain flour
  • 1 Tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
  • 175g Soft brown sugar
  • 1 Beaten egg
  • 4 Tbsp Golden syrup (Tip when adding this to the mixture, is to lightly coat your spoon in oil and then all the syrup will come off the spoon easily)
  1. First up you want to pre heat your oven to 180 degrees and cover a baking tray in some grease proof paper
  2. Put the flour, ginger and bicarb into a bowl and mix together with a fork
  3. Add the butter and rub in to make a breadcrumb consistency
  4. Add in the sugar, syrup and egg and mix together with your hands to make a firm dough
  5. Cover the ball of dough in clingfilm and put into the fridge for about 15 minutes
  6. Once it's cooled, add some flour to your workspace and rolling pin and roll you mix out
  7. Cut out your little men and add to your tray
  8. Cook in the oven for about 10 minutes until golden brown (although mine burnt a little whoops)
  9. Cool on a cooling rack, once cooled you can decorate them however you like. Checkout my shortbread recipe for a really good icing recipe.
There you have it, super simple but super delicious gingerbread men. Do you have any fun ways to decorate your little men?
